Mr. Zimlich , aka Mr. Z grew up in Independence and graduated from Independence High School (Go Blue Devils !!) He graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Education in 2002 and went on to obtain his Mater's degree from Grand Canyon University in 2009. This is his 14th year in education and Mr. Zimlich obtained the Master Teacher designation in 2013. He began his educational career as an aide at North Royalton High School then taught one year at Independence Middle School, before landing back home here at North Royalton Middle School! Mr. Zimlich has been teaching 5th grade Math for 12 years, and in addition to teaching he has also been a coach for 16 years. He has coached varsity football and baseball. JV girls basketball, 7/8 Boys basketball, 7/8 grade football, and 7/8 grade track.. Mr. Zimlich also runs the intramural program for NRMS grades 5 and 6. He married his lovely wife, Rachael, in 2009 and now has 2 amazing boys, Joshua(6) and Lukas (4). They both love to give their mother a run for her money! During his free time, Mr. Z enjoys to work in his garden, play sports, tackle his two boys and play with his two new old-english sheep dog puppies (Daisy and Rosie)! Mr. Zimlich resides in Columbia Station and is looking forward to meeting all of our Maverick students.
Mrs. Franko grew up in Columbia Station and Olmsted Falls. She had her heart set on Bowling Green State University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education in 2000. Both of her parents were teachers (mother and father both retired), so teaching is in her blood. She went on to earn her Master's degree from MaryGrove College and obtained her Master teacher designation in 2013. In November of 2013, Mrs. Franko was honored to have earned the Milken Educator Award for the state of Ohio. She also accepted a fellowship with the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes this past summer and is excited to implement this project with Maverick team students. This is her 15th year teaching and she loves coming to work each and every day. Before having children, Mrs. Franko coached high school and middle school cross country and middle school track. Now she has 4 beautiful children with her husband Mike, who is a firefighter/paramedic for the city of Broadview Heights, where they reside. 3 of her kids will be attending Valley Vista this year; Michael 4th grade, Olivia 3rd grade, and Ryan Kindergarten. Her youngest son, Evan (2) is an energetic toddler who keeps all the Frankos on their toes. Her children are very involved in sports (travel soccer, wresting, baseball, and softball) and she and her husband enjoy coaching their teams. In her free time (Ha) she enjoys running, watching OSU football, and spending time outdoors with her family.
Mrs. Cole grew up in North Olmsted. After graduating from Magnificat High School, she attended Ohio University to pursue her lifelong dream of being a teacher. (Yes, she was the kid who was always forcing her neighbor friends to play school. Her mom went as far as to buy old school desks for her, and she was known to keep a grade book and issue report cards!) Needless to say, Mrs. Cole achieved her goal and is now in her 21st year of teaching. She began her career in North Olmsted teaching 7th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. After 9 years at NOMS, she made the move to NRMS, where she taught 7th grade Language Arts and Social Studies, and 4th grade at Albion, each for a year. Then she found the perfect fit.........5th grade! Mrs, Cole has four children.........all boys!! Her oldest son, Justin, is 24, and is in medical school at New York Medical College. He is planning on becoming a neurosurgeon. Michael is 20 and attends Ohio University where he is studying to be a chemical engineer. Her 16 year old son, Ryan, is beginning his junior year at Medina High School.. He plays golf, hockey, and lacrosse for the Bees. The youngest is Joey. He is eight years old and is entering third grade at Waite Elementary School in Medina. Joey loves to swim, golf, and plays hockey and lacrosse as well. Life is busy at the Cole house! Thankfully, Mrs. Cole shares the load with her husband Tom, whom she met while attending Ohio University. When Mrs. Cole finds some free time she enjoys golfing, reading, shopping (especially for shoes) watching the Browns, and cooking. She is super excited to meet all the students on the Maverick team!!
Mrs. Johnson grew up in Parma and graduated from Parma Senior High. Since second grade she knew she wanted to be a teacher, and she attended Miami University and received her bachelor's degree in middle childhood education in 2007. She began her career teaching fourth grade math, language arts, and social studies at Parma Park Elementary School in Parma where she also was a math tutor, reading coach, and student council advisor. After three years, she made the move to North Royalton Schools and is proud to call NRMS her home for the past 5 years! Mrs. Johnson has taught fifth grade since arriving at NRMS and also coached 7th and 8th grade cheerleading (Go Bears!) for two seasons in 2011-2013. To build upon her love for reading and literacy, Mrs. Johnson earned a Master's degree in Literacy from Baldwin Wallace in May of 2012. Mrs. Johnson married her husband Iann, who is a culinary instructor at Normandy High School, two years ago. Last fall the Johnson home welcomed a mini golden doodle, Champ, and they enjoy walking and spoiling this energetic puppy! In her free time Mrs. Johnson also enjoys decorating and organizing her home in Brunswick (the teacher skills spill into home life!), reading for pleasure (of course!!!), running, exercising, and supporting all of our Cleveland sports teams, especially the CAVS! She is looking forward to her 9th year teaching (time flies when you are having fun!), and she can't wait to meet all the Maverick students!
Mrs. Stanton grew up in Southern Ohio and made her way north to attend Baldwin Wallace College (now University). While at BW, Mrs. Stanton played soccer for 2 years and majored in sports medicine and education. She earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from BW--now that is an alumni !!!! Upon her graduation form BW, Mrs. Stanton was fortunate to land a job right here at North Royalton Middle School. She has been teaching at NRMS for 17 years and in 2014 she earned the Master teacher designation. The first 8 years of Mrs. Stanton's career were spent as a health, physical education, and adapted physical education teacher. She then had a desire to switch gears to special education in the content areas because she loves to help alll students find creative ways to learn. Throughout her years in North Royalton, Mrs. Stanton has coached a variety of sports at different levels, but currently coaches 7th and 8th grade track. outside of school she loves to spend time with her husband, Patrick, and her children Hattie (5) and Hayden (3). As a family they enjoy watching golf, football and America Ninja Warrior, traveling, exercising., and playing all different kinds of sports.
Mrs. Nickell is beginning her 21st year working at North Royalton City Schools. She and her husband, George, are 26 year residents of North Royalton and both of their children, Ryan 30, and Amber 28, graduated from North Royalton High School. The Maverick team is blessed to have Mrs. Nickell as their paraprofessional, and she provides support to students in Mrs. Franko's Science and Social Studies classes (and a lot of times to Mrs. Franko too!!!!) Although Mrs. Nickell may be the "senior" member of the team, she is young at heart and has an amazingly positive attitude and outlook on life! In her free time she enjoys spoiling her dog Bentley, reading suspense novels, traveling, and especially loves boating and fishing on Lake Erie for walleye. Mrs. Nickell is thrilled to meet all the Maverick students:)
